The Environmental Field Technician is responsible for the performance of tasks associated with emergency response, hazardous waste clean-up, site-remediation, equipment decontamination and handling of hazardous materials.What You Will Do
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations regarding the handling, storage, transportation, and disposal of hazardous materials. This includes familiarity with OSHA regulations.
  • Respond to hazardous material spills or leaks promptly and effectively. This includes containing and cleaning up the spill, using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and preventing further contamination.
  • Respond to emergencies involving hazardous materials. This may involve participating in emergency drills and coordinating with first responders.
  • Safely transport hazardous materials from one location to another, often using specialized vehicles and equipment designed for hazardous materials transport.
  • Properly manage the disposal of hazardous waste materials, which may include labeling, packaging, and arranging for disposal at authorized facilities.
  • Collect samples of hazardous materials for analysis and testing to determine their properties, composition, and potential risks.
  • Ensure that equipment and personnel are decontaminated after handling hazardous materials to prevent contamination and health risks.
  • Maintain accurate records of all hazardous materials activities, including material inventories, incident reports, and waste disposal documentation.
  • Provide training and guidance to other personnel on the safe handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Maintain and calibrate specialized equipment used in the handling and analysis of hazardous materials.
  • Follow all safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when working with hazardous materials.
  • Effectively communicate with team members, emergency responders, and regulatory agencies when necessary.
  • Minimize the environmental impact of hazardous materials by following proper disposal procedures and taking measures to prevent leaks or spills.
  • Keep up to date with changes in regulations and industry best practices related to hazardous materials handling and safety.
